Remote Instrument Monitor

Norsonic Benelux has developed a custom 4G interface for the Norsonic sound level meters.

The main goal is to automatically inform users of the status of their instrument during noise monitoring applications.

This gives users some peace of mind: they will be warned if something goes wrong & they can aks the instrument for basic information.
Warning messages will be sent if the instrument is no longer in 'running' state, if external power is disconnected, if the instrument memory is low.

The interface can also be used to automatically change the audio recording trigger levels on the instrument op to 3 times a day. (example: a different audio trigger level for the day/evening/night periods)

The end result of the LAeq,T can also be sent to a contact person.

Some additional features that have been implemented:

  • automatic daily status report (instrument running status, battery voltage reading, available free memory)
  • start & stop of the instrument via SMS
  • ask for a status report via SMS
  • remote connection to the instrument with NorXfer and NorVirtual
  • optionally a module can be added that allows real-time remote listening to the microphone signal

The interface can be set to operate in a low-power mode (40mW) where it only wakes up (2W) 1 x each hour to perform a status assessment.
( -> only a +- 15% increase in power consumption compared to running just the Nor40 on batteries)
This is a good solution for battery powered monitoring points so we can keep the power consumption at a minimum.
Or the interface can also run continuously and will then perform a status assessment every minute.
